The sounds of music echo through CES

After six years with Shaker Regional School District, Beverly Nelson is retiring as of May 2. We are excited to welcome Rachel Manita (pictured below) to our staff! Ms. Manita will be graduating from Plymouth State University this month. She enjoys working with children, and we know that she will be a great addition to CES as our school secretary. We are grateful for Mrs. Nelson’s work at CES these last 2 years, and we wish her well in her next adventures!

Kindergarten Registration: Do you have a student who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30? It’s time to register for kindergarten! You can register in person at CES from 9 am to 2:30 pm on school days, or you can register online. To access the online registration, please go to http://www.sau80.org, click on Resources and then Kindergarten Registration/ALMA Start.

Please reach out to Ms. Manita at rmanita@sau80.org with any questions. We are so excited to welcome our new kindergarten friends. Fall will be here before we know it!

Monster Concert: The CES band traveled to BHS recently to participate in a day of rehearsals, which led to that night’s Monster Concert! Our students did a fantastic job collaborating with one another as well as with the 6th-12th grade band members to put on an amazing show. Their effort, bravery, and persistence were evident and we are so proud of them! Way to go, CES band!

Artist in Residence: CES recently hosted an Artist in Residence. Jeffrey Erwin from Trashcan Lid Productions brought a special program to us entitled Junk 2 Funk. He worked with all CES learners in a workshop-style process from March 27-April 2. Students learned various musical techniques, and had a great time using their creativity and expression as they made music together! The learning, the joy and the kindness was incredible to witness. Everything culminated in a schoolwide rock concert on the evening of April 2. CES staff members even got to jam out!

This program was made possible through the generous support of our awesome PTO and student fundraising efforts. We are so grateful for everyone’s support as we enhanced our students’ access to the arts!

Save the date: Our fifth grade promotion night will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at 6 pm. Please join us in celebrating our wonderful scholars.
