Thursday, June 13: Covered Bridges of NH, Covered Bridges Near Canterbury, Past and Present. 6 pm at the Town Hall. Join Kim Varney Chandler as she presents an overview of the historic covered bridges near Canterbury and shares information on others that have been lost to time. She will be available to sign copies of Covered Bridges of New Hampshire. This event is made possible by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities.
Saturday, June 29: Frederick Douglass’s “What to the Slave is your Fourth of July?” Noon at Shaker Village in the 1792 Meeting House. This is a community reading in collaboration with the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire. For the past several years, on the Saturday before July 4, the Black Heritage organization has collaborated with community leaders around the Granite State to bring people together to read Douglass’s historic protest speech and to reflect on its meaning.
