Elkins Library speaker series rocks on

These events will all be held in the Town Hall!

Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 pm: Around the World with Jim and Isobel: A Travelog. Jim and Isobel  went around the world in 6 weeks, created their own itinerary, and lived out of backpacks. No big tour groups, no big box hotels. They saw incredible sights, both natural and manmade, met many interesting people, including tourists and locals, and ate lots of yummy food, often from an insider’s perspective. Come hear them speak and view amazing pictures from their adventure.

Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 5 pm: Screening of The Quiet Epidemic with Lyme Ecologist Kathie Fife and Lyme and tick borne disease specialist Dr. Lynn Durand. The film, a documentary about Lyme and tick borne diseases, follows a young girl from Brooklyn and a Duke University scientist, both diagnosed with a disease said not to exist. (1 hr. 42 min.) Discussion and Q&A after the film.

Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6 pm: The History of Quilts with Pamela Weeks. A collaboration with the New Canterbury Country Store. Quilts tell stories, and quilt history is full of myths and misinformation as well as heart-warming tales of service and tradition. This program is brought to Elkins Public Library through a special gift, thank you!

Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6 pm: A Walk Back in Time: The Secrets of Cellar Holes with Adair Mulligan. Northern New England is full of reminders of past lives: stone walls, old foundations, a century-old lilac struggling to survive as the forest reclaims a once-sunny dooryard. What forces shaped settlement, and later abandonment, of these places? Adair Mulligan explores the rich story to be discovered in what remains behind. This is a Canterbury Historical Society Program.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 6 pm: The Common Loon: A New Hampshire Icon. Please join Lynda Moore, wildlife biologist and current member of the Loon Preservation Committee’s education and outreach staff, for an informative 1-hour presentation.
