In church, in fellowship, in the quiet … please join us!

Dear Friends,

As I write to you, the days are still hot, and we’re still wearing sandals, but the trees are reminding us fall is picking up speed. We can’t miss those flaming swamp maples and the occasional crimson torch in a green canopy. The cattails are puffing up at the waters’ edge, and of course, we’re picking apples now. And the oaks are pelting us with acorns! Our expectations and our obligations shift, and we adjust; we stack wood, get the kids on the bus, and enjoy the ride!

We feel the change at CUCC as well. Children’s Church has started up with our eager, youngest friends and loving teachers. You’ll see candlelight in the church on Wednesday evenings for quiet prayer and meditation. The choir is back, drawing us in and lifting us up. But of course, it’s hard to let go of those sandals. Some summer practices persist: hot coffee and friendly conversation for Canterbury at 11:15 or so on Sundays. And at 10 am worship, we’re still journeying together, living a life of faith that’s more transformation than destination. Together, we wrestle with some big questions: What am I? What is God? And of course, how can we live justly, kindly, and humbly – especially when life seems to be full of change.

So as those night temperatures dip down, I invite you to visit the church or the Parish House Community Center on a Sunday for worship or friendly conversation, or the church on a Wednesday evening for a few minutes of candlelight and quiet meditation or prayer. Come to choir practice on a Thursday evening to sing, or come by for a chat with me – in my office, or at the store, or under that spreading, rainbow maple. Who doesn’t need some good company on the journey, especially in seasons of change?

In Peace,
Becky Josephson
