The Canterbury Solid Waste Committee is seeking information from ALL town citizens regarding the future of waste disposal in the town.
The “cost” of disposal, also called “tipping fees,” continues to increase yearly, over 20% in just 3 years. The “recycling market” is continuing to challenge our methods of collecting and re-selling item materials. Some items continue to be a burden, stockpiling and sitting unused with little or no value. Storage space is limited and there is only so much that can be done on site.
Our transfer station sits atop an uncapped landfill that will someday need to be addressed. Test wells continue to monitor water quality, and there are no immediate problems. But building modification of any kind at the current site is strictly limited.
We want to know if the Transfer Station is being properly utilized for many of Canterbury’s citizens. Food waste continues to be a significant portion of our waste disposal costs. Can we be more efficient with our tax dollars?
Please help the committee gather information to make informed decisions about the current and future of waste disposal in Canterbury.
