Fire safety, field trips and more at Canterbury Elementary

Fire safety: All Canterbury Elementary School students will be visiting the Canterbury Fire Department in recognition of Fire Prevention Week on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Thank you as always to the FD for the fantastic presentation and hospitality. It is a great collaboration between the school and our local fire department!

Field trip fun: Learners in kindergarten, first, and second grades went on their first field trip of the year. They had a wonderful time at Hackleboro Orchard, picking apples and meeting the goats. Due to the poor weather that day, Petals in the Pines came to CES! Students had the opportunity to learn about different types of apples, as well as the life cycle of Monarch butterflies. Thank you to both facilities for a wonderful experience!

Constitution Day: Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades did an excellent job performing “Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution.” The play describes how the Constitution came to be written and ratified. The students did a fabulous job learning their lines and performing the various songs. The K-2 learners joined the older students to end the performance by singing “We the People.” This was a moving performance that was enjoyed by all in attendance!

Secret Garden: Did you know that CES has a beautiful garden outside the fourth grade classroom? Affectionately called “the Secret Garden” by students and staff, this relaxing space affords a place for folks to reflect, relax, and learn. Our fabulous fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Hebert, has both a green thumb and an artistic side. She has worked hard to clear the garden of weeds as well as make beautiful bricks that represent beloved children’s books. We look forward to the many hours that folks will enjoy using the refreshed space this school year!

Senior Citizen Luncheon: We are looking forward to holding our traditional Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Luncheon this year at CES. The luncheon, including a full turkey dinner and dessert, will be served by members of our Student Council. Entertainment will be provided by our younger learners. The luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, at noon in the CES Library. Please RSVP by Tuesday, Nov. 19, by calling 603-783-9944. This event is open to all senior citizens of Canterbury.
