Remembering David Gillis

Sept. 21, 1935 — Jan. 21, 2025.

Dave Gillis was a Canterbury resident from 1993 to 2025. His only roommates for those 32 years were his Australian shepherds, one or two at a time.  He provided a wonderful home for each-and-every one of those dear dogs.

Dave grew up in Manchester, NH, graduated from MIT in 1958 with a MS in electrical engineering, and moved to Pacific Palisades, CA where
he worked for Hughes Aircraft Company until he retired. One of his many projects was to help build the Hubbell Telescope!

After selling his home in California, Dave moved back east and lived in Manchester with his dad while building his Canterbury home. Dave loved to cook, work on his land, collecting stamps, and caring for his dogs. Most of all, Dave loved his daughter, Lisa, her husband, Glenn, and his two grandsons, Tyler and Trevor.

In his own gentle, quiet way, and while always showing a great sense of humor, Dave was a true Canterburian who loved the beauty of the town and the people in it. He helped make this town so special.
