Bears are on the move!
Bears are hungry and looking for quick and easy meals.
PLEASE remove your bird feeders before dusk, or take
them down altogether. According to NH Fish and Game:
- Bird feeders typically are the direct cause of
25% of annual bear–human encounters. - In addition to bird feeders, other primary bear
attractants include unprotected chickens and
other poultry (23%) and unsecured garbage
cans and dumpsters (38%). - You may want to temporarily fortify chicken
coops with an electric barrier, as hungry bears
can EASILY tear into even very well-built coops!
Other Spring Critters to watch out for:
- Skunks and porcupines are active — be extra
careful when letting dogs out after dusk. - If you find a fawn, don’t touch or move it! Check
the next day if you are worried the mom deer
isn’t around. Still worried? Call Fish and Game.
