Ted was a beloved member of the Library Family. Years ago, during lunch breaks from the Post Office, Ted would come over to join us for lunch, taking the mail upon his return from the corner of the circulation desk. He was able to tell you how much he needed from the petty cash envelope just from holding the package and he could recite any zip code from memory. After his retirement, Ted spent his time working for the library and doing everything we needed. From taking the trash and recycling, setting and cleaning mouse traps in the ceiling, moving carts and setting chairs for programs, bringing hot lunch for staff members and helping with Summer Reading programs. He tended the garden and was available to help with whatever we had going on. He served his community in the most helpful ways. He was the treasurer of The Friends of Elkins Public Library and proud member of the Old Man Boring Book Club. Long after Sue’s retirement, Ted spent his time at the puzzle table working and visiting with people coming through and sometimes enjoying a coffee and the paper. Ted worked full time at the Library and we imagine he loved keeping up with people he knew from his time as Postmaster. We all miss Ted very much.
The Library is commissioning an art piece to be placed in “Ted’s Corner” next to the puzzle table. We hope that people will remember what a lovely soul he was and think of him every time they visit the Library.
