Most residents are familiar with the Center cemetery located in the heart of the town, or the Maple Grove cemetery on Baptist Road that is still in use. However, there are 30+ historic cemeteries located in every corner of Canterbury! 

A dedicated crew of volunteers keep the out-of-the-way family plots neat and clear. Flags are placed each year reminding us that even veterans who died in 1775 or earlier are still honored.

In 2025, a new memorial was placed at the corner of Kimball Pond and Center Roads to mark the service of citizen-soldier George Shannon. To learn more about the battle in which he fought and gave his life, and to see photos of the dedication, go to  canterburyhistory.org/fa-2025-06-08/
