October’s Story of the Month is the Concord Monitor’s recent story spotlighting the wonderful work of the Historical Society’s Historic Canterbury Women’s Committee. Learn of the work of this new committee exploring the lives of notable women in the town’s history.

On all four Saturday mornings in October, at the Elkins Memorial Building from 10am to 12pm, there will be chance to see the latest exhibit entitled “Remembering the bicentennial in 1976.” Also, Sam Papps inspired exhibit about summer boarders in Canterbury will still be on display.

On Wednesday, October 14, at 6pm in the Town Hall, Dr. Robert Goodby of NH Humanities (pictured above) will give a lecture entitled “Digging Into Native History in New Hampshire.”

Come join us! The Historic Canterbury Women Committee, a project of the Canterbury Historical Society, is working to bring the stories of Canterbury women into the light of history.

We meet every other week in the Elkins Memorial Bldg.** to share ideas, research local women, and develop new stories. Everyone is welcome (men and women alike) — whether you’re a writer, researcher, history buff, or simply curious about Canterbury’s past.

Be a part of the team turning “lost history” into a living archive for future generations.
