We’d like to thank all who have contributed to our Tricentennial Project, the “Wild and Styled” meadow and gardens at the Municipal Center Complex. Your donations have allowed us to purchase many plants this fall and we’ve begun planting them!
The Wild portion, the land surrounding the building, went un-mowed for the year with the exception of a wide walking path through the west (left) side and a 15′ set back from the pavement. What grew was a mix of native and non-native flowers, a few invasive plants that were removed, and lots of grass species. Our goal is to increase the number of native flowers in this area. We purchased New England Aster and Mountain Mint and planted them along with donations of Purple Coneflower, Blue Flag Iris, Boneset, as well as Red Twig Dogwood and Silky Dogwood shrubs. They are marked with stakes to keep them from getting mowed. This fall the west side will get mowed and the east side will get mowed in the spring to protect the insects that are overwintering there.
The Styled portion, (in front of the building), were prepared for planting and covered with wood chips to prevent weed growth. Plants for these beds are being overwintered by community members. We will buy more plants in the spring and plant the beds then.
In 2027 we look forward to more colorful blooms in the field, attractive garden beds in front of the building, and an opportunity to give tours and have bird/butterfly watching events and nature walks at the Municipal Center!
