Canterbury Elementary School News

A Busy First Month

Canterbury Elementary School staff were thrilled to welcome students for the first day of school on August 31. CES teachers have been helping learners build classroom communities by getting to know one another, learning routines and procedures, and developing shared expectations for a safe, kind, and supportive learning environment.

Initial Assessments

All learners have participated in beginning-of-the-year assessments, such as STAR Reading and STAR Math. These assessments help teachers to determine student needs and to plan instruction accordingly.

Open House

On September 16, CES held our annual Open House event. Families came to see the classrooms, shop at the book fair, and enjoy the pizza supper. It was a fun night for all!

Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution

Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades did an excellent job performing Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution last month. The play describes how the Constitution came to be written and ratified. The students learned their lines and performed the various songs with only two and a half weeks of practice! The K-2 learners joined the older students to end the performance by singing We the People. This was a moving performance and a wonderful way to kick off the 2026 school year!

Substitute at CES

CES is always looking to hire substitute teachers. If you are interested in applying, please call me at the school at 603-783-9944 or email me at echubb@sau80.org.

Thank you for supporting our school!

Several CES Student Council members took us on a journey through time during one of our first assemblies of the school year! Using a (cardboard) time machine, students introduced us to life in Canterbury in 1956 and 1973, along with fascinating stories about Amelia Earhart, George Washington, and more. Thank you to Mrs. Wieck for creating this fun, engaging kickoff to our yearlong Time Travel theme!

The September Playground Party was a blast! The CES Advocates (PTO) brought music, bubbles, popsicles, and lots of laughs! We also unveiled the new “communication board.” We are so grateful to the PTO for this addition to our playground. We are proud to make our school community welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for everyone.
